Poker Tells – I know what you have.

We have discussed a lot on poker tells like facial expression and the opponents reaction to the flop, turn etc. Let us now discuss all these poker tells with a real time example. The illustrated example is inspired from the personal experiences of John Carlisle, a professional poker player.

He shares his recent experience where he won just with two rags. That was a No Limit Hold’em poker tournament, he was seated beside two players who were literally novice on implementing poker tells. Carlisle just wanted take the advantage out of it and prepared to increase the amount in the pot to a maximum extent.  From the big blind position he called a moderate raise from player “X”. Though his hands were not so good (just the two rags) he was confident enough in winning the pot. He started with a bet-out after the flop and concentrated on his opponent’s reaction. The opponent was in a thoughtful observation. There he oozed all the poker tells, he took another peek at his hole cards before wiping them across his forehead. The opponent was thinking deeply on what to do with the flush draw. Things were certainly going Carlisle’s way and all his predictions were pretty accurate. So, what I came to know from this example is that the poker tells are not always the same. They change depending on your opponent’s reaction.
