Poker Tells by Daniel Negreanu

Poker Tells from the professional players like Daniel Negreanu are always good to learn. So, without wasting anytime let us discuss very good poker tells that are explained by him with examples. The beginner poker players always do big mistakes by doing bluff even if it’s not necessary. Novice players ooze all the poker tells when they face a weak hand.

Here is the example. Player “A” raises before the flop in a “$5-$10 Texas Hold’em” poker game with 10  J  and obviously some other player calls your bet. K  9  4  are the hands that come in the “flop” round. With this combination of flush and straight draw you will bet with $5. This round continues and your opponents raises your bet with $5 and you call.

And now comes the turn where 7  is the hand. Your opponent bets $10 and of course you will call the bet. The final river comes and makes you feel like start bluffing as the hand is 2  so called “A big fat brick!” Here you start bluffing that possibly could not work anyways. Till then you were playing slow and steady and now after seeing the river card you start bluffing and try to confuse your opponents by reacting fast to the bets. So, don’t you ever change your rate of play at any stage of the game? I suggest you not to do this and maintain the same rate of reaction throughout the game. Instead under such situation you can follow few tells of poker like re-raising the bet on the flop, check-raise the bet on the turn etc that could help to confuse your opponents

Poker Tells – Don’t get Victimized by Your Opponents.

Poker Tells like getting victimized by the opponents are very important especially under the situation where you have got enough luck to win the game. Sharks can easily feel the smell of blood even from miles away. Imagine a shark on your table and how much time it takes to find you. I would say in “NO TIME”. I am talking about people who act as victim and get victimized. Many beginner poker players and semi-professional poker players do this and get trapped under the Jaws.

To avoid this you never have to feel like a victim even if had a severe bad beat. Otherwise even a novice poker player can feel it easy to jump on you.

Let me discuss with you my experience while playing No-Limit Holdem and how to avoid being victimized by your opponents.

Pocket aces in my hand and I was hoping for someone to re-raise. But that did not happen; instead I faced three calls beyond me. The flop cards were a rainbow ( A Q 7). And it can’t be better than this for me. I checked and was checked at big blind who bet. I called and everyone else had to fold. I was not lucky enough at the turn and river where the hands were Jack and 10 respectively. I knew what the big blind has and folded. Though I had to fold I managed to lose minimum. But, if I would have gone for all-in after the flop then I would have lost everything and obviously my facial expressions would have given an easy hint at that point of time and big blind would have eaten me.

Poker Tells on Bad Beats

There are many hypothetical examples to illustrate the worst bad beats ever. It’s very important for beginner poker players also for the semi-professional poker players. This is one among the top poker tells that can make you a professional poker player. Let us discuss step by step on how to adopt this poker tell and become a professional poker player.

1. You never get tilted by the bad beats if you bankroll management is good enough.

2. Beginner poker players in ignorance will commit all their chips before the flop which is pretty dangerous and chances of getting a bad beat are more.

3. Semi professional poker players are always disappointed with their profits. So, with this kind of frustration you won’t be in a position to face any bad beats. So I suggest semi professional poker players to concentrate more on the game than on your profits.

4. Don’t play in aggressive fashion unless you have nuts in your hand. You never know when a shark is going to jump on you in the form of bad beats.

Online Poker Tells - The danger of Discussion

Poker tells like discussing the game on internet discussion boards is pretty dangerous and invaluable. The present discussion is inspired form the article “The Danger of Discussion” written by Jay Greenspan, a semi professional poker player and the author of upcoming edition, “Hunting Fish”.

When he first started playing poker online he used to discuss a lot but now he feels that it’s just nothing. After all we reveal our hands only after finishing our game in discussions board and could others help you on this. Winning is in your hand, it’s your strategy and skill that works while playing online poker tournaments. Who knows whether the suggestions given in discussion forums are right or not? Many novice poker players tend to give suggestions to your queries so better avoid them and stick to one trustworthy forum. Also seeing some other examples of poker and implementing it is insane. Your poker tells are only ones that can save you.

Poker Tells – I know what you have.

We have discussed a lot on poker tells like facial expression and the opponents reaction to the flop, turn etc. Let us now discuss all these poker tells with a real time example. The illustrated example is inspired from the personal experiences of John Carlisle, a professional poker player.

He shares his recent experience where he won just with two rags. That was a No Limit Hold’em poker tournament, he was seated beside two players who were literally novice on implementing poker tells. Carlisle just wanted take the advantage out of it and prepared to increase the amount in the pot to a maximum extent.  From the big blind position he called a moderate raise from player “X”. Though his hands were not so good (just the two rags) he was confident enough in winning the pot. He started with a bet-out after the flop and concentrated on his opponent’s reaction. The opponent was in a thoughtful observation. There he oozed all the poker tells, he took another peek at his hole cards before wiping them across his forehead. The opponent was thinking deeply on what to do with the flush draw. Things were certainly going Carlisle’s way and all his predictions were pretty accurate. So, what I came to know from this example is that the poker tells are not always the same. They change depending on your opponent’s reaction.
